Well I am glad you are still here. Sorry you are still not feeling right.

I cannot believe the time it takes to get something diagnosed I thought head injuries were to be taken seriously. Apart from all that you shouldn't be running about behind people chasing things up if you are not feeling well.

Does any of this surprise me no not really.

I hope it is all sorted pronto for you.

You've probably already tried but I rang lots in the build up to my LP as I was due to fly away over xmas and only found out 2 days before I was due to fly that I wasn't allowed Drs can be bloody hard to get hold of - I would certainly want to talk to the consultant not your GP though if you can hon!

Bloody head injuries can be a ******!!!! Big hugs xxxxx
Trouble is Lorna, I don't actually have a consultant, I didn't go private, I was just referred by my normal gp for a brain scan at this private hospital because he wanted the scan done on the day (last Friday) and I was prepared to pay. So in effect, although I paid, all I paid FOR was the MRI scan I suppose, and the radiograph consultant is the one who does the report after the radiologist has scanned me.

What was your problem with the lying down bit then? I'm very interested to hear about that please?? I feel as if I get a fluid build up in my head, and maybe when I get up and walk it drains itself, and I remember the doctor saying last Friday, that if what he suspects is right, then they will have to drain my head That sounds a bit painful doesn't it, but hopefully, my body is doing the job for them!

When he finally gets around to sitting me down and discussing my scan with me, I'm gonna make darn sure he refers me to a specialist if there IS a slight problem there, and if not, then I will want to know WHY that radiologist saw something he "didn't understand" on Friday when he did me. I know I'm a worrier, but this is my head we're talking about here, and I feel that's quite an important part of me, I'd like to keep it in good working order thanks! Oh Lordy, I would have much preferred a big, black eye when I hit that car door instead of a banging head, at least you can see what you've done can't ya!

Thanks Lynn. It'd be nice if he does actually ring ME when it arrives wouldn't it, but as you know, that doesn't happen, it'll be me chasing him. It'll be "filed away" I just know it!!Been here before with them!

Well Helena, your gp notes are in the surgery and so are your scan details. Heres what I think you should do, get on the phone right now and tell the receptionist that you have a head injury, you can't lie down because of the pain and thus has been going on since last week, and you want, actually need an emergency appointment THIS AFTERNOON AND IT CAN'T WAIT, then whoever you get can discuss it with you. Head injuries that leave you having turns, pain, unpredictable, swelling etc does not sound like it can wait to me! Quick enough to send you for the scan!

Thanks Natalie, I'm going to leave it a couple of days now, because I think the scan will be sent in the post quite honestly, which means if they send it today, it should be there by Wednesday, so tomorrow I'll ring and see when this doctor is going to be in and insist I have an appointment to discuss the scan with him. I won't be fobbed off with an answer from the gestapo on the desk that "the scan has come back ok" don't you worry, I want specifics!!!

I'm ok, the pain isn't an actual headache, it's more of a pain from the actual lump itself rather than from inside my head, so I'm sure it's all down to deep bruising healing itself with all that fluid. Famous last words huh?!!!! Thanks for caring, but you know me, if I felt really c*ap I'd be back down there like a shot!! I don't need the stress if I'm honest either, I know what they're like down there ya see!

I don't know whether this has any relevance or not, but I can remember when having severe pain with a tooth abscess, lying down was impossible because the agony increased tenfold.

So does head pain increase when the blood flow changes due to being horizontal??

I suppose it could old bean It's also the fact that the pillow is touching that area (I have nice, deep, soft feather pillows as you would expect!!!!! ) I've even had to pull my hair over in the other direction, coz even the way it lies over the bumpy area makes it hurt like hell. All a bit weird isn't it. I've had many a tooth abcess in the past, so I know what you mean, but there's no throbbing, it's more sore, just like if you've damaged your leg and got a great big bruise and swelling, and you wouldn't dare touch it would you, and that's a bit like my head is.

I'm really wanting to put ice on it, I feel it will give me some relief, but seeing as it's been a week already tomorrow, I doubt it would do any good, and I'm scared it might actually do some harm now that the thing is trying to heal itself, it should want warmth, but I don't want warm on it, I want ice, it'll numb it too!

At least I'm feeling ok in myself still, out of that fog I've been living in, and I can't wait to get those results.

I'm wondering now whether a brain scan will actually show this damage ON my head, or whether it will only show up damage to the brain which was his main concern. I want that doctor to know just how much I've suffered ya see!!!

One of the tests my registrar did with me was to make me put my head between my legs and ask if the pain got worse. I know that before I had surgery I used to get terrible pain on bending down to pick things up off the floor so it must be some kind of indicator?
