Orijen or Exclusion Dog Food

Just been reading up on what to feed dogs with Epilepsy from one of Lucky Star's links and have found the above 2 brands of food which are potato based and recommended. Just wondering if anyone had any experience of either of these. The Orijen is the one I'm leaning towards at the moment.

I tried Orijen with my two. Star loved it, Finn scratched on it

If you are looking for a potato based food have a look at Challenge Salmon & Potato It is a much better price than Exclusion.

Don't Skinners or CSJ do a salmon and potato food?

Have you thought about feeding raw as you can't get more natural than that?

Didn't realise a special diet could help with epilepsy - why is that?

Here's Lucky Star's post. It certainly isn't a guarantee but it may just help

not sure on either of those foods, I was told by my vet who knows I raw feed that Hearts contained Taurine, and that Taurine has been proven to be helpfull in reducing seizures both in animals and humans. Ember wouldnt eat hearts raw to start with, she would turn her nose up at them, so I used to just flash fry them for a few seconds and allow them to cool and then she would gobble them up.

this link to the canine epilepsy guardian angels site, explains about Taurin, although I think they are referring to capsules and not in the raw meat form.

If you was thinking of perhaps adding taurin to her diet, I'd say check with your vet first, just to be on the safe side.

I feed all three of my dogs Orijen. It's made 2 hours from where I live and ingredients are from Alberta and BC. My dogs get the 6 fish, as Scout is allergic to chicken. All of my dogs are doing well on it. I also know 3 other dogs on it and they are very healthy too. I have no idea about epileptic diets tho. What I like about it is all the holistic ingredients and the fact that it's grain-free.
