Good advice, the only thing I'd add is dont JUST listen to what your vet says.. many of them have been educated by the big food companies and have done no further research on the subject, so will just sell you what they have been sold, this is not nessarily what is best for your puppy/dog.
Do your own research as well and take a little bit from everything you read.
