I'm fortunate enough to have enough land to take my dogs out without having to worry about personal safety. The OH comes with me at night as I don't like going out by myself in the dark. If anyone is found trespassing on the property, they have the end of a rifle barrel to look down.

Brave girl!
I don't carry anything but would probably react much like you did if my dog was threatened.
I don't rely on my dog for defence as I'm not sure how he'd react - he adores people. I am thinking about self-defence. I am quite fit - play squash etc. so I could run but maybe not fight.

what is this world coming too, i live in a lovely quiet village with about only 20 houses around me...but i still don't feel safe
