Ah, fair enough.

Fish aren't inverts though and very often "feeder fish" are used to feed large fish.

No matter which reptile he decides on the most important thing is to research it thoroughly before buying it, and also go to a reputible and knowledgable supplier.
One of our vets specialises in exotics and we see lots of reptiles. Many are dying by the time they come into the surgery and most are ill because of poor/wrong diet and living environment. Some owners had been given no/wrong advice from the pet shop/supplier.

Good luck with your choice of reptile, I must admit I have a soft spot for the Bearded Dragons.

You didnt specify that in your posts But, technically there shouldnt be any difference. If it is against the law to feed rodents live then it should be to feed inverts as they are all capable of feeling pain, seems odd to have it restricted like that

He has successfully fed on defrosted food for the last 3 years..

There are ways of making snakes eat defrost..its totally inhumane to feed live prey!
Err yep got that - i had no idea about it being illegal or i would not have mentioned it for obvious reasons.(woe betide me) I don't agree with it either personally just for the record.

I don't keep snakes or anything like that so i wouldn't have a clue about feeding etc etc. I suppose it was either that or a dead snake - i know he tried various different options.

Only by dumb people...there are plenty of options for feeding ALL species of fish, none of which involve feeding live fish.

I think the water dragon sounds good, not too big. I don't want to frighten the cats

Thanks everyone, knew I'd get the answer here
