It was all play no work for her after producing such an amazing litter of pups so maybe there is a little credit in there for me but she's back to showing next week and frisbee competitions have to come second place again

well done! ziggie loves his frisbee and it makes an interesting change from just chucking a ball!!!

can I ask what format the competitions take? is there maybe a website I can have a nosey round? some of the kelpie people I know do this as well, it sounds like a great day out

H xx

This is a good site for those who are interested in this sport for your dogs although, regrettably, it is American. But, I did say that it wasn't a traditionally British thing

Congrats nusmas and Star !

Never heard of this before but from a quick perusal it looks really good fun. Presumably this isn't something you can do with your dog until it's fully grown (much like agility) ?

Yes, until the dog has physically matured make the throws low, slow, short, and straight. Avoid throws which cause the young dog to leap high and come down with a heavy impact with the ground. Also avoid throws which cause the dog to twist its body. Always practice on a 'giving' area such as grass or soft sand.

I always start my dogs off very early but NOT with a frisbee. Just the average ball or tuggy does the trick and all it's doing is teaching the dog to catch it and bring it back to you but never start using a frisbee until about 8 months of age and at that point only do as Shadow boxer has mentioned.
