hi, i feed natural instinct at the minute like people have said it can be expensive. i dont notice it too much because my dogs are quite small so dont eat alot, and they only have natural instinct for one meal, the evening meal is either chicken wing, pork rib, fish or tripe.

i like natural instinct, and the dogs do, however i dont want them on it full time, because i previously ordered from a supplier and its cheaper, plus there is more variety.

what i do like about natural instinct is all the food is human grade.

There is a wholesale place near me that sells the same type of thing but its only 50p for a pound of meat, do you think its too cheap and probably be the type of meat from bad animals? Thanks.
no if you look at suppliers like DAF, landywoods etc going rate is about 50p a lb, depending on the type of meat (venison and things like that are more expensive) its not bad meat, its perfectly fine to eat.

the difference with natural instinct is that all the meat in their food is human grade meat, free range too i think.

whether you choose to feed natural instinct or go down the supplier routes, there is plenty of advice on here about raw feeding.

Berriewoods is another straight forward order online site also good.

Though with prize choice you can get in most pets at homes and other pet stores/ garden centres so its to get a hold of. Works out 89p 500g packet you get more in packet then most suppliers and its ideal for smaller freazer spaces as their is not normally a minimum order and delivery is fairly cheap.
I'd love to order where you do, it's 89p/400g (I have some in the freezer) and £8.80 for 12. I can get 20 x 1lb minces for about £8.80 from my supplier.
I'd also like to know how you know the meat quality has improved when you've been a raw feeder even less time than I have?

Anyway back to the OP.

There are cheaper ways of feeding raw but tbh, the hassle is minimal and worth it. The only hassle I have is remembering to get their food out to defrost and if I don't they can eat it frozen or semi defrosted, it doesn't harm them and also deciding what to order at the end of each month. So minimal hassle really, means I don't have to deal with delivery that can be late, popping out to the shop to pick up extra. Raw feeding my 27kg Lab x costs me about £30 a month, but then I buy extra as I do have dogs at weekends and theres always extra incase.

With ND (example) - 1 case (18 per case): £16.65 and I would have to feed 2 a day to reach Louie's recommended weight, so for a month I would have to order 4 cases (£14.15 per case - 4-9 cases) it would cost me £56.60 a month and thats just one flavour.

I personally would find a supplier and order from there, build a good relationship with your local butcher - ask him for offcuts/carcasses if you pay a little towards them or buy some meat from them for your own consumption. Game keepers/dealers - I've not heard of any in Sheffield but I'm sure there is, but then I lived there for 18 years and didn't really look for them as I didn't have a dog, Chinese supermarkets - you can buy things like chicken feet, trotters etc for about 40p, Halal butchers - it's actually cheaper for them (and other butchers) to just give you the carcasses rather than have to pay for them to be taken elsewhere to be got rid of.

Hope this helps.

make sure if you are doing it yourself read up, maybe buy some books, and learn what you need to feed to make your dogs diet a balanced one. meat from suppliers is just that, meat. so it not a complete food, and you need to work out how much meat, bone, offal etc you feed so the dog gets all the vitamins it needs.

It might not be human grade but it won't be far off. Just a supplier may be cheaper for you

And as Clo says, read up on raw feeding, buy books, read the other side of the argument that raw is good for dogs - be prepared before you start.

yes, prize chioce blocks are 400g - I get them for 65p at our local pet shop. I have just started buying 2kg bags for around £3. For those of you that say the natural instinct is too expensive, what are you using? I mix mine with mash potato and raw veg - what does anyone else feed?

I don't mine mix mine with anything. It's a complete food, so nothing needs to be added. They have natural instinct for breakfast and then a meal of either tripe or a rmb for their evening meal.

Agree with Clo, Natural instinct is a complete food. It already has vegetables in it so I don't see why you need to add more.
