Police choose Rottweiler over GSD

In an article in the Daily Mail I have just read that the police force have chosen Rottweilers over GSD. as the police dog of the future - what to Rottweiler owners and G.S.D. owners think about this?

Yeah, I saw that - they were likening GSD's to poodles because so many are showing nervous tendancies now....

Have to say, wouldn't like to be on the wrong side of either breed...

No neither would I however - I suppose less people would mess with a Rottweiler.

Maybe it's for health reasons. I know a lot of GSDs in our force were forced to retire due to hip problems. Not sure what the good ol rottie is like but it's expensive to train a dog and a waste of money if it then has to be re-homed.

I believe Rotties are used quite a lot in Europe in the forces.

About a year ago I remember on the news that the police were also starting to introduce Belgian Shepherds. I'm not 100% on the name of the variety but the one they had featured seemed to have a curlyish coat. Mallinios????????? rings a bell and Im not sure on the spelling LOL

diane---it was the very short coated belgian shephards the forces are using, --i get confused which name they have too, but its not the curly coated ones,

as for rotts in the force, im over the moon, theyre best when theyve something to do, -some lines are obviously more keen than others, i had a male that loved doing things he was trained to do-his progeny where often the same-but ive also had stubborn grumpy plodders too, as a breed and more so the males they can be challenging to say the least

ps, think theyre lakenois ? [spelling]
