Locked on an internet site

Hi all,

There is something which really gets my goat and I don't know why it happens, I did sort of "half read" something about it months ago, but it didn't register in my brain.

What I want to know is, why sometimes when looking at an internet site do you get "trapped" on a page ?

For instance, if I've "googled" trying to find something and then I've picked a site to look at, invariably I can use the "back" button to take me back to google to continue my search.

Loads of times though, I've used the back button and I still stay on the same site, it will NOT let me get away ! and it's SO annoying !!

You have to then press the "X" to get out and it takes you right out of internet explorer and you have to start all over again, why ?

Please can anyone enlighten me ?

Regards
Radar

yeah this sometimes happens and I have no idea why or if it is on purpose or not???

But what you can do instead of closing the browser and starting over is:

See the button you normaly use to back track well on that same button is a little downwards pointing arrow...click that and it brings a drop down list of pages you recently were at and you can select from that list the page you wish to return to.

Hope that helps

Hi Myschievous,

Thanks for that, of all the times I've looked at that, I didn't realise that it was a "drop down" menu, I must be daft!

I'll remember that now !!

Regards

Also, use the history button to go back to where you've been, if needs be...

If you ever find yourself trapped on a web page that you can not get rid of IE no close button, no scroll bar nothing it just takes all your screen up the you should do this Instead of ctrl-alt-del you can use Alt-F4 to close the active window... this will close any active window.

I just like to add that this feature is very popular on porn sites not that i would know about them or suggesting anyone here goes on them.

Try it just open another explorer window and press Alt-F4 together and that window will close.

If I am randomly searching for things..
I go to the first google page,
.. then right mouse click to show the little menu,
..then click on 'open in a new window'
..then when I have read the page I close that widow on the bottom task bar and it takes me back to the google page

I take it you do that cause google dose not open a new window when you click on a link it uses the one that you got your results in. You don't have to do that mini when you get to the google page to start your searching look to the right of the search area you got 3 options Advance search, preferances and language tools.

Click on the prefernce tab you can tell google to open a new window everytime you click on the results so you get to keep the results from your search and look at what link you want in a new window.
