Aww Bless......I really hope the insurance will pay up, but if they won't, I hope you can raise the money somehow.

Good Luck x

I'm at a complete loss of what to do, in an ideal world insurance will pay out but the vet is suggesting they won't as he's had the patches since birth and they've developed into a lump over time. We never declared them to the insurance as a pup as we were told they were birthmark type patches and nothing untoward.
Hi Esme , gosh what a huge bill.
I would talk to the insurance company ASAP.

The way I see it is you did not know Monty had this particular condition when you took out the insurance, the fact he has had the condition from birth is not relevant. No one could be expected to know a couple of patches like a birth mark would turn into anything sinister.

The puppy I lost two years ago aged nine months must have had her kidney condition from birth and was slowly deterioration from that time (although she only had a couple of vague symptoms until a couple of weeks before she died and I had those checked out but the vet couldn't find anything wrong ).
The insurance company were fantastic and paid for everything .
Like you with Monty I didn't and could not have know when I first took out the insurance that Millie had a serious medical condition.

Wow £3,000! That's a lot of cash, perhaps like Shona said a little too much??

Good luck with the insurance, fingers crossed they pay out.

sorry to hear about your puppy but am glad you had such an understanding insurance company. I truly hope I can get this resolved with mine. As you said we had no way of knowing it would ever turn into this and I'll be getting copies of the notes from the vet who saw him from just after he was born as hopefully they will clarify that we couldn't have know.

yeh it is a lot of money but if you put yourself in my shoes what would you do? I could say to myself it would be cheaper to do nothing and then have him put to sleep when it becomes a problem or grows bigger but i could never bring myself to take that option because i love him unconditionally and would do anything for him.

£3000 is a rough figure, it could be more it could ,hopefully, be less. It is suggested it's done by a specialist because if done under normal vet surgery they could remove it but that's all, they couldn't piece his head back together as well as a specialist.

No you misunderstand - I meant too much as in perhaps it could be done cheaper if you got quotes elsewhere, not that you shouldn't bother and just have your dog put down.

Oh Esme, that is such a worry, I do hope the insurance covers it (IMO it should but then I am not the insurance company, so that is of little comfort). I hope something comes through, hugs to you and Monty

So sorry to hear this news Esme, my experience recently of insurance companies is that they will do anything to get out of paying for something, but you sound like you're with a reputable company so I have everything crossed.

If I were you, and this is just my personal opinion, I would get the op done as soon as I could afford it. If you think how much damage those birthmarks have done already in his short life, I would be asking myself how quickly they will cause more damage...I know I sound a pessimist but I'm afraid I panic when there is anything wrong with my dogs.

If you think it will neccesitate selling your car to fund the op then do it, I know that Monty means far more to you than the car, and you can always get yourself another one just like it a later date.

If it comes down to you having to raise money to afford the op then please let us know if there's anythign any ofus can do...I'm more than happy to do a sponsored walk, sponsored slim or anything else that will help...I know from experience that most people on Dogsey will do anything they can to help when one of us finds ourself in such a predicament.

Good luck, and hugs to Monty xxx

Apologies that I misunderstood or snapped. We will consider getting quotes elsewhere but then the expense of doing that will add up in consultations as well and the current specialist is very local so we could visit him each day he's in the hospital.

Again, I'm really sorry if I snapped.

Hi Esme, i'm sorry i've only just seen this - i'm sending you huge hugs from me and my Monty.

Hopefully the insurance company will pay out. If not, maybe you could do something like Moons Mum (i think) done - they raised funds by selling homemade healthy treats for dogs.

I'm sure Dogsey members wouldn't mind spoiling their dogs - even more, lol for a good cause.

Keeping everything crossed for you.
