Difference Between Male & Female Dogs

I have limited experience with this.

I know Ernie well (golden/poodle mix), and his best friend, Zoie (female golden).

I see some interesting differences between them, but don't know if I can extend it as a general rule.

Zoie seems more moody...she likes to be chased, but won't chase Ernie...she seems to need more affection...and is very protective of her human babies.

Let me hear from those of you with lots of experience.

My boys are much more clingy than their sister and mum. The girls seem to be more independent than the boys!

Also, the boys are all bark and no bite, and would always back down if threatened; whereas the girls are loud, noisy and in-ya-face and would never back down!

Depends on the individual dogs/bitches in my experience.

Generally people say that bitches are less loving, more independent, smarter (read craftier) and less eager to please.

I'd say yes to the craftier, but my two bitches are the most loving, loyal and 'dependent' dogs I've had.

Before them, I'd always had males and always thought I would - since them, I really wouldn't mind which sex I had, it will depend completely on the individual dog who needs a home at the time and how they mix with my existing dogs.

Maggie's the first bitch we've ever had and I have to say that she's totally won us over. She's very loving and affectionate and she does love to be chased more than being the chaser! I also think she smells less than our boy dogs have.

Having said that though, our dogs in the past have mainly been scotties who are pretty independant little things so maybe not the best to compare to.

my bitches are loving in the house, but independant outside, the boys are the opposite,

on the whole I find the girls smarter, more craftie as hali says,

I also agree with isochick, the boys are all blow and bluster the girls are the real deal.

The main, and only consistent, difference is that a bitch will never embarrass you by getting a hard-on when Grandma comes visiting.

I don't think there is so much of a difference with dogs / bitches but there are many more differences between breeds
