Dog friendly camping/beaches in Wales

Hi everyone

Neil & I are planning to go camping for in the first week of September in Wales, for our 2nd wedding anniversary and Woody's 2nd birthday.

We're planning on Pembrokeshire, preferably near Cardigan/New Quay. The trouble is, most of the beaches are closed to dogs until the end of September.

Does anyone have any inside knowledge of this area? Any suggestions of places to stay?

We didn't have any problems with the beaches when we went a couple of years ago. Most of them have restrictions and will only allow dogs in certain area's but aside from that you should be ok.

This website details walks and cottages:

This website has a wealth of info for dog friendly beaches and places to go:

One of our favourites was Abereiddi where the lagoon is:

If you park up at Abereiddi you can walk up to Traeth Llyfn Beach which can only be reached by walking and has a steep metal staircase going down onto the beach:

Also down on the south coast was Manorbier which has a castle which is dog friendly. We went but unfortunately the castle was closed for a wedding on the day we went so we went for a walk on the beach instead. It was very nice:

I also highly recommended a trip over to Caldey Island which is inhabited by monks. You can catch the boat from Tenby.

Haverfordwest Farmers Market is well worth a visit and we bought some fantastic stuff there to bring home.

We found Pembrokeshire to be incredibly dog friendly and had a wealth of things to do, places to see and some of the best coastal walks going.

Black Rock Sands! Love it there and very dog friendly! You camp literally about 20 yards away from the beach

A friend of mine has just recommended that place. The only thing putting me off is that it looks huge! I like tiny site with little coves personally. Is it as big as it looks?

I don't think it is. But then again, the only other times I've been camping are to places like Eurocamp abroad, so they are massive.

I didn't think it was that big though

Loadsa places folks but you could always camp at our gaff at SA40 9SD and go where ya want when ya want from there

Do the Ceredigion Coastal path route, loads of camp sites and not many would turn away a dog or three

Hi - we're going to Saundersfoot on the Pembrokeshire coast end of June. Although we've got a cottage this time, we have friends who own a camping ground (Broadfield Farm) which is dog friendly. The main Saundersfoot Beach does have dog restrictions May-Sept but there is a little beach called Glen Beach that you can take dogs to. In the other direction is Wisemans Bay which you can walk along the beach to - once you get past the busy main beach its fine for walking dogs. Enjoy - its a beautiful place!
