Tips on surviving being on a breed stand at DD

So, I have volunteered to be on the breed stand at Crufts 2014 with my dog.

This is my first time being on a breed stand so want to be as prepared as I can be.

I only have the one dog and we will be in one class before we head to the DD stand.

It'll be on the Saturday.

Any tips?

Thank you

What breed stand will you be on?

I will also be on my breed stand for the first time, I would talk to others who do it and get advice from them.

Tips I have been give,

Make sure you take some form of cage for you dog to retreat to for a rest, a nice blanket to bed for your dog, along with the obvious water food , lots of toilet breaks.

Don't force your dog on visitors if they don't want to..mind you shouldn't be taking a dog that does not enjoy fuss from people.

P.s..make sure you take fod and drink for yourself in case you can't get away from the stand.

Have a good day and enjoy it

Make sure there are plenty of other volunteers, your dog will soon be exhausted.

Prepare yourself for an unbelievable amount of fools who will tell you how their papillon lived to be 35, KC reg ones does fast, they used to be bigger, have you any puppies for sale now, etc!

I spent a couple of years being on breed stands at various shows with my greyhounds and the season starts again for me in a couple of months.
The main thing is don't force your dog to greet people. Let it go to people as it pleases and the may thing is have a bed it can retreat to and rest when it wants to away from public.
Its very tiring for them.

Sorry, no advice from me. I own mutts and they don't have a breed, therefore no breed stands!

But I'm sure many people here know just what to do, and I see advice already. Good luck at the event!

My husband and I helped on the German Pinscher stand at Discover Dogs and woweeeeee was it exhausting! We did about 3.5 hours and it was non stop! good advice already. All I would add is keep a smile on your face and be honest, your love of the breed will shine through naturally
Good luck! Hope it goes well

Ask your breed club for information leaflets to hand out, wear comfy shoes and clothing, bring a dog bowl and bedding for your dog, and a drink of water or juice for yourself as your throat will get dry from all the talking you'll be doing, head ache tablets are a good idea too as it's noisy and can be stuffy. Above all enjoy it !
