Not sure about Nortons Firewall and how good that is...But from what I have heard the specialist firewalls are supposed to be better than XP, I always turn of xp's firewall, so the other way round to you

Thanks Mys! Dave just told me that too, but one of his so-called pc literate mates told me to do that so I did!! I shouldn't have listened to him then, as Dave agrees with you, so I'm off to change mine over now - thanks!

Don't be surprised if it finds hundreds of things to start off with coz it did on mine! Now it only finds about half a dozen after using it regularly. It's brilliant that programme, especially for the likes of us!!

Foxy, can you put the IP address is the blocked sites list of your router ?

This will protect the other PCs too.

Software firewalls are OK, until some virus or other gets in and disables them.

Also, use the Immunize function in Spybot Search & Destroy - this has a block list which can be kept updated.

Thanks for that roy I'm not too sure how to go about it but I have just blocked something called an ICMP Ping (Ping to Wan port) do you think this could help matters or not.

Ping sends a series of data packets to a computer in order to test it's existence. Blocking the port will stop hackers finding your PC using ping scans. However, if they know your address exists, they can still potentially try and get in using different methods.

Can't remember which router you've got, so I don't know whether it has a blocked IP address section. It may be under something like trusted/untrusted computers.

Just had a look at the manual. Unfortunately it doesn't have the ability to block IP addresses.
