Is this a threat???

Occasionally while browsing,my screen freezes then clicks couple of times and all of a sudden-it changes to someone elses site saying i should scan my computer with their software for threats for something called Win something. It always happens while on Dogweb curiously and no one elses site...

I've done virus scans using my Norton and also use 'Windows Defender' for spyware which has all came up clear.Im using the Norton firewall by the way and not the Microsoft one.

I dont download anything norty (unless Lost eps have suddenly become porn!) and dont even use any sites for smilies etc so am at a loss as to how this gets into my laptop.I have never authorised this site to scan my laptop and i simply hit the red X in top right until its all gone.

Any ideas???

I too have had problems when on here. It comes up as Winfixer and asks you to scan your computer for problems etc. I run Norton Antivirus daily and it came up there as a security risk and thankfully quarantined it. There is no additional information on it though

Found the following:
Type: Other

Name: WinFixer
Version: 2005
Publisher: WinSoftware

Systems Affected: Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

Risk Impact: Low

Behavior
WinFixer is a Security Risk that may give exaggerated reports of threats on the computer. The program then prompts the user to purchase a registered version of the software in order to remove the reported threats

Transmission
This security risk is manually downloaded and installed.

When WinFixer is executed, it performs the following actions:

Creates files:
Creates registry subkeys:

Adds the value:

"WinFixer 2005" = "C:\Program Files\WinFixer 2005\WFX5.exe"

to the registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

so that the risk runs every time Windows starts

My system is clear Frizzy-mine does an ad scan everyday at 7.00pm automatically and a full virus scan every friday at 6.00pm.

The only thing which comes up is from Kazza, but this is cause i use Limewire for downloading, but i just delete the tracking cookie it plonks on after i have finished.

Whatever it is, it pops up on Macs, too - it has ONLY happened when I'm on DW.
