Mosquitoes

Mosquitoe season is here, what do you all use on your dogs to keep the little buggers at bay.

We dont have them in Scotland, I think its too cold. We do have midges which are not as bad.

I use a grooming spray with citronella, lavender and tea tree in it on Star and so far no problems with midges or other insects.

We get quite a lot of mosquitos here during summer, but the dogs never seem to be bitten by them.

We have a lot of mosquitoes here in DK now. And I thought that this would be a good time to start with the garlic and brewers yeast, as the garlic might put the mosquitoes off.

But perhaps it doesn't?

You've never visited Arrochar (shore of Loch Lomond) then! They are flying piranhas there - even heavy rain doesn't deter them!

Fortunately, iot's too windy around Snorri Mansions for the dreaded midge!

BBC Scotland ran a news thread about midges/mosquitoes earlier this week - about a new machine which attratcs them and electrocutes them!

"Jungle Formaula" repellent works very well on humans (you can see the insects doing a quick body-swerve when they get a whiff) and a very light smear might help a dog, too. I haven't tested this, because a Border Collie's hair seems to be thick enough to stop them (on the few occasions we've been somewhere with tiny flying terrors!).

They don't find me very attractive either (nobody else does, why should they ) - one year, we went and camped near Loch Hourn. Mrs S recieved over 200 bites on her legs, I got 2! I put it down to homebrew.......
