Orthognathic Surgery?

Has anyone had or know anyone who has had orthognathic surgery? The orthodontist has said my 16 year old son needs it to correct the position of his lower jaw. It sounds pretty horrific tbh and means him wearing braces top and bottom for at least 2 years
Am interested to know if anyone knows about it and can recommend the operation?

i know of two people who have had it done.

One, around 15 yrs ago, and my friends daughter had it done two years ago, she was 25, was recommended about the same age as your son, but she refused...(vanity and all that at an impressionable age)

To be honest, it was a long job , but well worth it, she looks stunning now, not that she did not before , but you can tell the difference in her profile..(bringing her lower jaw out )

If your son is happy to go forward, then go for it, he will never look back, and "this time " will pass quickly .

If I can remeber rightly for a while after the op, they can only drink through a straw .
