Some are, some aren't.

Len gets them on his tummy too, and those are rather sore and itchy.

The "hairy" one is on his flank and although it's itchy, it's more dry and scabby than anything else.

I expect more of the hair to fall off soon...... it's like living with a canine leper....

Max had one of these on his back, right above his tail....I cleaned it up, then used wound powder to dry it up.... it has pretty much disappeared now

Oh god love him. Poor old Len.

Hopefully it is just that on Ivan and looks worse than it is.

Thanks again for all the reassurances xx

It definitely looks like there may have been something there that had burst but I cannot see any sign of a spot or any sort of broken skin or anything that would have caused any weeping, if that makes sense.

Can they get hot spots on there face? As I said I have no experience of them.
My Leo got hot spots on his face a few times. They seemed to appear in Spring when the weather suddenly warmed up - don't know if moulting had anything to do with it? I used to treat them by bathing in saltwater solution and sometimes a couple drops of tea tree oil or lavender in it too. Plus I would take more care with facial grooming and get all the old hair away.
You are right though, these spots can be hard to spot with such hairy beasties, try not to feel guilty xx
