House Fire - Dogs lost

Somebody I know (ish) had a serious house fire a few days ago. He was at work when it happened. The place burned to the ground and he lost everything. The saddest part was the fact that his three dogs were at home at the time. By all accounts it was started by his mobile phone charger.

I'm pretty vigilant when it comes to checking my coal fires, plugs and such like before going to bed each night but you always feel that you have some degree of control when you're in the house.

Being 'away' when you've animals at home is another thing though. It has really made me think twice about what I leave 'on'.

Like me, he also has cats but they're all accounted for. They were obviously either 'out' at the time or soon made it out the flap.

How awful, I have to agree that a house fire is my biggest fear. However, I do turn off everything that is possible at the socket when I leave the house. The only things that remain switched on are fridge, microwave and phone (not mobile).
