oh , I only read training and/or behaviour books.

I read The Incredible Journey when I was at school and later it was made into a film.

Now this is an old one so you may have read it. Fluke by James Herbert. I have some titles in my Kindle wish list, I'll check them out and get back to you.

This doesn't fall into either category but I found it very helpful on understanding dogs.

How Dogs Think by Dr. Stanley Coren

Dr. Coran is a professor of psychology at the University of British Colombia.

Dr. Coran and I seem to have similar views when it comes to lawyers, in his book he tells the story about a lawyer who offered him an incredible amount of money to be an 'expert' in a high profile court case.
"Couldn't you just come down and interview the dog" asked the lawyer.
Forgetting that some lawyers have no sense of humour Dr. Coran replied "You mean something like getting him to bark once for 'yes' and twice for 'no'?"
The amazed voice at the end of the phone said "Could you do that?"

Let's see...in the memoir/true story area:

Mark Doty: Dog Years: A Memoir
Katy Cropper: A Dog's Life in the Dales: Winning Ways with Working Dogs
David Kennard: A Shepherd's Watch: Through the seasons with one man and his dogs

In fiction?

Merrill Markoe: Walking in Circles Before Lying Down
Donald McCaig: Nop's Trials
