Horse lovers beware ....

I am totally shocked and horrified at what I've just read in Horse & Hound regarding an Olympic dressage horse owner.

How can anyone use animals as throw-away item

That is all too typical of some of the people involved in the highest level, it becomes all about winning and those that aren't good enough are just more or less abandoned.
A very very long time ago a friend and I used to buy failed racehorses, reschool them and then sell them on to private homes. We saw some sights I can tell you. Some trainers used to contact us because a failed racehorse had just been left on their yard and the bill never paid, horse was usually turned away and if we felt they were salvageable we used to take them on. A lot of them, very sadly, we couldn't do anything with.

Not going to read or view it. I can imagine. I still remember years ago hearing about horrific practices used to get horses to do that 'high stepping' thing they do in shows. Sickening.

The thing is Pat, you can get horses to do all sorts of complex movements by patience, just the same as you would a dog actually.
The person who has Taran is an excellent example of this, she has those horses doing all sorts for her, Taran standing on one whilst it is lying down is a great example of how chilled her horses are and how happy they are to trust her and what she asks of them.
There is absolutely no need to brutalise any animal, it is self defeating in the long term.
