New hens - additions to the menagerie

Some new hens

These are 'point of lay' just 20 weeks old or so. Hopefully in a few weeks they will be contributing to the egg count.

A Bluebell

A Light Sussex Hybrid

This is one our existing 2 year Isa Brown hens. A Battery hen rescue but looking in good condition now. They're all still laying an egg a day despite being past their 'optimum' battery age.

They are all beautiful - I love watching hens and ducks, they always make me laugh.

I bet the ex-battery hen can't believe her luck.

Lovely chucks
we used to have a pen/allotment and had chickens, we also like yourself took on ex-battery chickens, they were great, and it was brilliant to see them running around enjoying doing out doorsey chicken things

The grey one is a Bluebell which is a type of Chicken

The kids name them

The grey one (the Bluebell) is called Snowflake and the white one (the light Sussex) is called Twinkle.

The red ex battery chickens are called Ruby, Penelope, Clementine and Nanny Plumb.

Phil I really like fowles I used to have them when I was little and they learnt to crouch and fold their wings for a cuddle

When we were on holiday with the children this year the farm in which we stayed had some lovely fowls, I think some of them were Bluebells.

My kids really enjoy them too.

I like a boiled egg and sometimes scrambled eggs on toast but we give a lot away or I trade for trout with a friend.

Karen does a lot of baking so that accounts for a lot of the eggs.

Hi Have you been watching the Royal Welsh incredible chickens ect, yours look like winners to me.
When I was at the convent one of the sisters used to have chickens, but when winter came she used to boil up potatoes with the skins and they used to go mad for it,the noise was surprising Gemini54
