However, he did go on to say that he knows it is particularly bad in his area because the majority of the dogs were all from the same lines and the problem certainly seemed to be inherited.
I do see alot of agression cases...but often they tend to be spaniels or spaniel crosses. I Think that area is a factor in this as well as they are a very popular breed down here (not being specific to Cockers...its springers as well - and crosses between the 2....and crosses with Collies...)

I'm sorry but i have to say something about this if it only happened in the evening then i very much doubt that this is rage, rage isn't predictable its like a fit that would be like saying that dogs with eplipsey only have fits in the evening. Also unless the dog was pts and a autopsy done you wouldn't know.

I had a EBT in 08 who had to be pts for suspected rage, and a behaviourist couldn't help as it is a neurological problem, there is some medication that may help but that imo could be more dangerous if the owners trust it.

Also like i said only a autospy can confirm rage so unless this was done people can only say suspected rage.

I have experienced it with a EBT and had a 3 day hospital stay and almost lost my arm through and tendon infection and almost needed plastic surgery as a result.?
Rage syndrome is a neurological problem that can affect a range of breeds, but mainly thought of in solid gold colour show type cocker spaniels. It is also sometimes mistaken for aggression.?
Rage attacks can happen at any time, and is confusing and upsetting for both dog and owner. A dog suffering with rage can be fine one minute then attacking the next then it can go back to itself just as quickly.

Rage can only be confirmed through a autopsy aswell

just to add some people say that the dogs eyes change before a attack but I never witnessed this.

And if a dog does have rage even the worlds best behaviorists can't help.

But the chances are your dogs friends have behavioural problems, not neurological ones.

i saw this episode a while ago, and again last week. i found it sooo sad, and cried my eyes out! was heartbreaking when the guy had to take him to be PTS.

they did say that the 2nd time he bit, well mauled, it was unprovoked... i felt sorry for the dog, but i felt so so sorry for both of the wee girls who were bitten. and i totally understand why they felt it safer for him to be PTS.

i dont know much about cocker rage, but my friend has a cocker who is lovely but boy does he bark! he never shuts up, and it can get so annoying. he is also extremely DA, but i think that was more due to lack of socialisation.
