Educating people? Yeah right!

I just had a phonecall asking if we sold dogs in the shop....no, we certainly don't!

Anyway, the convo went like this....

Her: Do you sell dogs in the shop?
Me: No, we don't.
Her: Ok, do you have any puppies on the notice board?
Me: What type of dog are you looking for?
Her: Jack russell, westie, something like that.
Me: There is a litter of Westie puppies (read her the details).
Her: Ok. Whats the phone number?
Me: (read number out)
Her: How much are they?
Me: £450
Her: Thats out of my price range
Me: Your going to have to spend about that to get a well bred puppy
Her: Oh, well I don't want a well bred one then (Yes, she was being serious!)
Me: Well if you don't get a well bred puppy, you may be faced with health problems and vets bills.
Her: Ok, thanks [puts phone down]

Well, can't say I didn't try!

I try my best when people ask questions/advice, but it seems to go over most of their heads
One girl asked about mating her staffy bitch, asking me what days it should be done.
I know nothing about that side of breeding - never done it, never will.
I asked if she's health tested, and she said yeah, she went to the vets and she's healthy.
I asked if she'd had the test for L2 (I think thats name name!), and she didn't even know what it was
I told her to get herself on the internet and do some research, as she shouldn't be breeing without doing the test. She was taking the bitch to be mated the next day.
She hasn't been in since! Don't think they like honesty!

People never do - To be honest I think its because everyone thinks their dogs are perfect, and it's as simple as getting pregnant and having babies, then raking in the puppy money.

I had planned to use both of my pugs at stud, but as time goes on you realise their little 'imperfections' might not be beneficial to the rest of the breed. For example Stevie has 'flying ears' and Jack has a recurring skin complaint. I don't think people take these things into consideration.

Cost-wise most don't realise that unless you're breeding very expensive dogs which you can sell for a lot, the vets fees FAR outweigh the money you'll get for the puppies. If shes breeding a 'non KC' staffy she'll be in for a shock when she realises she's at a £400 loss!!

Ssmith80 - that's if they bother with a vet at any stage though!

True!! I never think of these things. How inconsiderate to breed dogs and not even take them to the vet for checks...

It would be like going through the duration of an entire pregnancy and not going to the doctors!

Some people are so foolish, and cruel.
