Looking for a good breeder of chocolate labs.

I am trying to source a good breeder of chocolate labs for a friend who is embarking on getting their first puppy. She is based in the North West but is willing to travel.

Hi Sis

The following link is a good starting point.

http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/se...%28Labrador%29

It's the kennel club's puppy finder but it's also a quick way of getting some results for Kennel Club Assured Breeders for particular breeds in particular locations.

There's a couple of names spring to mind, is this just for a pet, or to have a dabble with competing in any sort of way?

The ********* website isn't a guarantee of a good breeder, there are all sorts on there, I spotted a rescue stud dog being advertised on there the other day. There are a couple of good litters on there, but there are also breeders I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Tarimoor

The dog us wanted as a pet. My friend particularly wants a choc lab but I think would be open to change colour to ensure getting a healthy pet from tested parents.I have not done Labradors before, what tests should she be looking for?

I personally would want to see hip scores, elbow grades, current clear BVA eye cert, CNM status and PRA status, but finding a litter with all of those is like finding rocking horse poo to be quite honest. I have seen a litter advertised that I would recommend, but if your friend does want all of the above and does want chocolate, but doesn't mind travelling, a friend of mine is planning a litter next year.
