Colour prejdudice?

I was reading in one of the Dog mags that the colour of a dog can effect how long it takes to be adopted.

Figures from Manchester Dogs Home of average length of stay before adoption...

White, tan, ginger or grey - 17 days
Brindle - 30 days
Black - 34 days
Black and white or brindle and white - 43 days

I didn't realise it could make such a difference and I really don't know why people don't like black dogs! Not that I'm biased...ok, may be I am, just a little

I saw this and was surprised too that it would make a difference.

On a practical issue I would have thought a black dog would be better than a white one as they don't show the muck so much! It is only when I shower Cherry and Parker that I realise how filthy they are by the colour of the water-yuk!

I love black and whites but would put that well after temperament, shame that colour effects how quickly they are rehomed

Colour of dog doesn't matter to me - though I am a bit partial to black ones

I did know that black dogs generally took considerably longer to re-home but didn't realise that black and whites took even longer, every time I threaten Griffin with the dogs home, it's decreased of late but is still fairly regular , I also add onto the end that he'd be there for ages coz of his colour!

Any particular reason? Or just an aesthetic thing?

Exactly, I wouldn't want a white dog for practical reasons.

Maybe that partly explains why Affens aren't more popular as in the UK they have to be black, the American KC accepts other colours.

It may sound daft but I just find the colour a bit dull and boring If they have another colour in there it just breaks it up a bit.
