Stress Issues with Training

Hi,
I have been taking Samson to Training at the local Dog Training Centre for nearly 2 x years - he has reached level 4 and will sit, stay, recall etc fine, providing there is a 10 foot distance between him and other dogs. Again fine at the park providing no dog comes within his personal space.
I use a long leash at the park for control (just in case) and also when he has to sit, stay or down stay at the centre from a distance. I asked for advice on how to improve jhis socialisation skills - his training is good and he picks up things quickly, but after the 2 x years he still lunges when another dog walks past. The training doggie phychologist at the centre has said that maybe training is too stressful for him!! I am gutted, I wish they had told me this at the beginning.
I walk Samson early morning and silly oclock at night when it is quiet -
Not sure what to do now - does anyone have any recommendation for a one to one training professional. Samson is coming up to 3 years and his litter mate is the opposite = great with dogs, people etc.

I see you live in the Midlands, I wonder if Marie Miller is near you?

I have not seen your dog so cannot comment, and have no idea with whom you train, but I can recommend Marie especially as she has a special interest in BAT (a seminar which we both recently attended) which might suit your dog down to teh ground.

If she is too far, let me know whereabouts you live and I may be able to recommend somebody else.

Thank you - I have heard the name but did not know the web site - I will give it a try. Samson is a very scared dog - lovely at home but jumps at every thing when outside. Very dependent on me.
I love him to bits, its a bit like the child who gives you the most worry gets the most attention.

You and your dog really could not be in better hands.

She is also a lovely person.

Oh I do hope you get somewhere with the new lady.

Took the other one long enough to come to the conclusion that 'training wasn't for your dog' didn't it?

Not very helpful to hear that after persevering for 2yrs.

He sounds just like Billy, who is very stressed and reactive at training class. He's come on a long way (wouldn't even take treats for the first few weeks) but is still a totally different dog to the focused, keen and enthusiastic character he is at home. We've been going for seven months or so now and he is improving but I do wonder if there's anything more I can do.

Good luck and keep us posted!
