Positive dog walking experiences please...

I tend to get a bit panicky when I read the threads about dog attacks on here. I have learned that the best way to calm myself is to remember all the positive stories that I here/have...and balance the negative. It's just sometimes on here it seems there are only negative stories and it saddens me. Are things really so bad I wonder?
I am sure we must all meet more nice dogs than not nice?
Come on guys....lets have some good dog walking stories PLEASE!

Hi,

99.9% of ou walkies are positive where we meet up with other dogs, all ofwhom are usually friendly. I've only had one nasty experience precently but i don't care to think about it.

My dogs are overly sociable and love to meet up with other furries, whether they already knwo them or not.

Zane and Yiannis still come back a lot for reassurance when off lead if we meet up with dogs they haven't met before but as I said, almost eEVERY walking experinece has been a positive one for us. Even the bad times that are so few and far between i think can be turned into a positive if we learn something form them.

In thirty years of daily dog walking in my local park, meeting thousands of dogs over tens of thousand encounters, I have never, ever seen a dog-fight there.

Well...there was one occasion but both the dogs were mine so I don't think that counts.

TBH most of my walking experiences are good, but it's the negative stuff that you really have to rant about, so I don't tend to tell the happy tales! Will try to be more positive in future

I love when we meet friendly playful dogs, especially those breeds that don't usually get to socialise and play, like Rotties, Staffies etc. and also toy breeds. I was impressed the other week when I met a man with a tiny Yorkie and a Pom and they were off lead, very mucky and allowed to play with Rio. Rio did need telling no though, for overuse of the paws and teeth during play but she's a good girl and only needed telling once.

Hi Ramble, I had a good walk yesterday because it just made me feel so good!
Hubby usually takes Mo to the woods where she can have a good run. Being a Lurcher she needs it. But I cannot manage the distance or uneven ground and I really miss my walks.
Yesterday hubby had to take our DiL for a hospital appointment early in the morning so I went for a walk around the roads with Mo. I flat walk were I knew I could do as much or little as I could manage.
I walked for 30 mins and felt so good.
We met some very well behaved dogs, a Westie, a Lab, and a Retriever.
So don't panic, get out and enjoy your walks, the majority of folks and thier dogs are very polite.
Have fun!

We very rarely have a bad walk

On monday we went to the beach and my two had a lovely play with a JRT, Boxer and Border Terrier pup. It was so nice to see all shapes and sizes playing together and the owners relaxing.

I know it is easy to come on and vent about experiences when out, especially the negative ones. I do the same sometimes At points though, it seems the negative threads really are outweighing the positive threads and at that point I think we all need to look at our walks and wonder do we have more negative than positive experiences. I know when there are lots of negatives posted on here I get a bit twitchy when I am out walking and i hate that. I am always watching anyway....so to be doing it more...well it's not a nice feeling.

Yes we do tend to rant about the bad ones and forget about the good uns

Even with my crazy lady there are places I visit with my 2 that we are all so chilled and all the dogs we meet are friendly and wanting to play

Troon beach

(totaly strange dog joining in zoomies with my pair)

Car park in the sky

Ferguslie park gardens

and loads more, just happy walks
- sorry if I tend to focus on the bad ones - hope that helps

hello

I know exactly what you mean Ailsa, I cant give you a positive dog walk involving a dog & dog scenario, but I was with Luca and without Bruno in the park on Monday...

We were just coming out the playpark, and there was a man who has a lovely Westie called Holly, who we rarely get to speak to as we always have Bruno. Holly is a lovely wee dog and usually just gives Bruno a wide berth. Anyway we stopped to chat as didnt have grumpy mutt with us, and Holly kept standing patiently at Luca's feet so he started to run and she was chasing him, he was changing direction and she was and they were having a wonderful time, chasing each other, the delight in Luca's laughter was so lovely, and he was saying its quite sad as many parents dont let their kids pet her and she is lovely and fabulous with his grandkids... and thats a westie, which made me feel better with the parents who pull their kids away from bruno...

Anyway they played for about 5 minutes running all over the park, and then we went our seperate ways. Luca talked about it for the rest of the day and cutely when we got home told Bruno all about Holly !!!

AAAWWWWWW !!!!!
