It depends on the dog. My GSDs never needed a whistle - you always know where your Shepherd is because you tend to keep tripping over them. Then I got a Shorthaired Pointer who you can`t manage without a whistle. (Unless you`re very very loud)

I think a whistle can be an invaluable aid , when you have more than one dog.

I do and have used them, not always, but my 2 will respond far quicker to a whistle than a shout.

Trouble is , if some one else has one in the distance, my boy will recall to that

I've never used a whistle.
When we are on the beach there are whistles going all over the place and it would appear to me all the dogs just go their own way anyway

I never see anyone with a whistle here. I have certainly never used one. My dogs dont get far enough away for me to need one, and one is deaf, so that would be kinda useless eh? lol

never really used one before, they answer to there name and duke tends to not go away from me unless i throw his ball. plus when he hears a whistle or someone whistles he barks (when hes in the house anyway, so i don't think he like them)
