To Whistle or not ?

I am surprised by the number of people I see out with dogs, who don't have a dog whistle.

I'd rather leave the dog's leads at home than the whistle, I feel naked without it.

Anyone else feel it is an essential tool.

I don't generally take one, but Jess knows to recall to one or shouting.

I tend to whistle with my fingers in my mouth instead to be honest. Just as loud

I've never seen anyone with a whistle. When I use it, I get a bit embarrassed but I can't whistle with my fingers in my mouth and my dog repsonds better to a whistle.

Our whistle comes everywhere with us. We even have spares in various places in case we forget it.

Never used one, never would, my voice is booming enough, she knows that much better than any whistle!

Ours respond to both, but I've found that Snip, who's getting a bit deaf, can hear it better. It also travels better in the wind if they're quite a distance away. I wouldn't say it's an essential tool, but I'd rather have one with me.

The thing I like most about a whistle is that if you're panicking for whatever reason and you need your dog to come back without letting them know something is wrong, a whistle won't portray the panic (sounds strange to hear I know)
