2 puppies 1 kennel?

Hi Ya'll

Just wondering if its crazy to put 2, 14 week old shelties in a 27inch W X 40inch L kennel for a day??!! I do come home for an 1hr for lunch so they would get a run, pee, poop and play. Im not too sure about it myself but have been told that it would be just fine. Im getting a 2nd tomorrow night so its just a one day dilemma.

Thanks

Totally unacceptable IMO.

Can you sort out a safe area for one with bits and bobs from around the house?

too small

too long...........14 week old pups need toilet breaks every half hour.
i can see a toilet training issue brewing, you may even have 2 pups treading around in their own poo.
and if your poop eating pup poops in his crate (which is probable, as, physically speaking, pups cant hold themselves for hours on end) then he has plenty of opportunity to carry on eating poop all day.

and 2 pups at the same time, good luck with that

It is a shame that you are still going through with getting your puppies litter mate. But what is done is done...

They will need SEPARATE crates. They will become overly bonded if they spend all of their time together. Also, as others have said, they cannot spend hours and hours in there at a time. One pee break in the middle of the day is not enough. They need to go out at least every hour if you hope of housetraining them successfully.

No. These young animals are missing out on socialisation, training, exercise and just about everything else.
I would be looking at day care or dog sitters. Otherwise you are laying up huge problems for the future.

I agree with this 100%.
And also with the fact that getting two littermates (if this is the case) without careful management will store up problems with training and behaviour for the future.

Disasterous all round.

How long are you out of the house for? 8 hours a day in a cage plus at night is far to long for such a young pup, without adding a second to the mix. As has been sed toilet training means going out very regually at 1st

Likely one day won't hurt. One of the purposes of the crate is to restrict activity slowing the body and extending the time a dog can go with food, water, or relieving itself. 2 puppies in the same crate defeates that.

I have had very few problems leaving even 7 week old puppies in a crate 4-5 hours at a time. If you can't make it back for a mid day break, see if a neighbor or professional dog walker can.

I totally disagree , two puppies in a crate that size left for a day is not acceptable.

Neither is 'one of the purposes of a crate to restrict activity to extend the time a dog goes without food and water'

Labman you really have no idea about caring for dogs.
