Man's Scarf

Anyone got a suggestion for a really simple pattern for a man's scarf? For a very new knitter

You can get some really nice wool now which is a bit feathery and ribbony. If you knitted a scarf in plain stitch all the way it would still turn out a wee bit special with this fancy wool. You could choose a dark colour which would make it quite masculine?

If you google knitting mens scarf you come up with lots of results for free patterns
I seem to remember doing a really easy one years back, just knit two purl two on each row until desired length was reached - but I can't remember how many to cast on.

Or you could make it stripey k2 p2 which would give you a rib effect.
