How come you can buy fish on ebay?

I thought you wernt allowed to buy animals, but I'm looking for a fish tank for a fish I was given, and came up with these.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-MOOR...item415a310db0

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-INCH-R...item3368ab24aa

And theres more, am I the only one who thought that this wasn't allowed?

It is allowed and is perfectly legal.

I have done so in the past when I wished to obtain rarer species that are not commonly available in the aquatic trade. However, I would only do so if the fish came from a reputable aquatic supplier and NOT some random person. If they come from a proper aquatic supplier the fish will be caught correctly, bagged correctly, given adequate oxygen and packaged correctly (in polysterne for tropicals, etc.).

So when you think about it, it isn't much different than an aquatics shop getting their supply of fish from their supplier...only the fish from online are probably in transit slightly longer than ones that come directly from a supplier.

I know that people buy fish online, someone I know is well into his fish, and getting a ray soon I think its called Articulated or something?? But I never thought on ebay that you would be allowed too if I'm honest, and you can more then likely get a lot better people on there then the local pet shops but I just thought before that it was against ebays terms of use to be able to buy or sell live animals.

I'm surprised they allow it - I presumed they didn't allow ANY animals to be sold on Ebay?

Just had a look at the rules;

Restricted
The sales of the following animals are permitted, provided that the seller guarantees in the listing that the animals will be packaged safely and posted via next day delivery.
Live bait (minnows, shiners, earth worms, and meal worms)
Live insects, crickets used as bait or feeder food for pets
Shellfish, such as crabs and lobsters, that are live when sold but intended for human consumption
Aquarium or pond fish (up to 5cm long), snails, tadpoles or similar creatures. Aquarium or pond fish longer than 5cm may be listed with the 'Collection in person' option
Hatching eggs for some animals are permitted provided the seller offers domestic-only postage within the UK. However, hatching eggs from endangered species, migratory or wild birds, snakes, or turtles aren't allowed

Not allowed
Sales of other animals not listed in the exceptions above
