Well I was never really 'into' dogs at all, I could take them or leave them to be honest and was more of a cat person

Then I had the most terrifying experience in my life with a Rott who mauled me to within an inch of my life (litterally) (2 weeks in Hospital, blood transfusion, many, many months of recovery from the injuries etc)

BUT .......

Had that not happened, I also wouldnt have had the priviledge of a very long and wonderful rehabilitation by another Rott who saved my sanity and turned me into an out and out complete dog lover.

Every cloud has a silver lining

All good here to. Mostly they are just doing their own thing and don't bother with anyone.
I have had the pleasure of meeting 3 of Nero's and Shona's Kaos and in the right hands they are a wonderful breed

I know 5 that live near me all different households, they are all gorgeous dogs, one tries to hump Ollie a lot so he is off Ollies list of Friends and we keep them at a distance now if we meet up . The other one is also not good with other dogs but Ollie is getting the same also with dogs he doesn't know after his nasty encounter with the Dane puppy humping him and hurting him, so we keep our distance but if it is just me she is fine it is other dogs she has a problem with. All 5 are excellent with people and only 1 of them has an issue with other dogs.
So for me only good experiences and we believe our Max our previous dog had rottie in him and he was lovely too.

Have to say GOOD and BAD

The GOOD ones have all been pets, well bred pets...who have been owned by responsible dog owner's... those I know personally have been wonderful examples of the breed.. those I have met out on walks...ditto.... all well behaved... the odd one a bit dog aggressive, but I dont have problems with that, as it is not a breed thing, just an individual dog thing.

The BAD ones.... well, sadly they all have been owned by the wrong sort of people... used as gaurd dogs, to either guard, livery yard/scrap yards/ farms

They have been interbred, with iffy temperaments, and sadly only one outcome to expect.

I know of one family, who own and run, all of the above... they have breed their guard dogs Rottis with each other, father to daughter, brother to sister... anything that has 4 legs, to be honest... and then sell them in the local paper for half the price a good one would be.... regardless of the temperaments or health of their dogs.

And sadly.... there is no surprise, when the offsprings turn out the same.

But on the whole....good experiences... with a wonderful breed.

I've only ever really 'met' one rottie, and she was the sweetest dog ever. She was a monster though...a cuddle monster!

Hadn't realized you'd met Marius DK!!! LOL

Have had good and bad experiences with the breed! Mostly good, have met some wonderful Rotts over the years, many of whom have been wonderful ambassadors for the breed. A lot does depend on the owners and how they have trained and socialized their Rotts. Too few do this and with a powerful, intelligent and independant breed like this it is an absolute must or there will be trouble.

I do agree sometimes (not always) it is the fault of the owner when their dog misbehaves. One of the worst experiences I had was when Sid and I went to visit a well known breeder to have a look at their litter and some of their adult dogs. We met a young male from her previous litter who was in the house and whom we'd been assured was very friendly.

Sid went and chatted to the lady, temporarily leaving me in the room alone with the male. He sat near me but had that famous 'black' look that they give you when they mean business. He started to grumble at me, I knew that he meant it- I guess the breeder should not have left us alone in his domain me being a stranger and all. She came back in and he greeted her and left me be. I can honestly say I was so relieved!!!

In this instance the breeder should have known better and I did not blame the dog, but had she not come back in when she did I do think he would have acted further. Quite scarey!

The other bad experience of course was my own dog Ozzy, which I have told the story on my blog and don't wish to go over now. Very sad

Best experience has to be Marius - he is such a character, absolutely solid with other dogs and people. He is my joy and am so proud to own him. If it weren't for losing poor Ozzy we would never had got him as Ozzy was going to be our last Rottie. I am so pleased he came into our lives

What about you Shona, what have you thought about other Rotts you have met?

All bad thanks entirely to idiot owners and bad breeding. Wish I could say I'd met loads of lovely ones but I haven't.

You know what though...I still llove 'em and would have one in the future!

I have not really had bad experiances with the breed, dont get many coming to me for aggression, I have trained a few people who poss cant see the wood for the trees and there dog has became a bit hot to handle round dogs, may poss progress to people, but its not the dogs its the owners lack of control,
x so I would say pretty much all possitive, but I have to say most of the rotties round me are my breeding so there trained along side my lot at the club,,there is a chap with two in larbert that are very dog aggressive, but he never socialised them, I think he thought as there were two pups from the same litter they had company and did not need to play and interact with other dogs and animals,

I would say with the exception of one all my encounters with Rottweillers have been great . . . . .

The exception was when I was a postman and was chased down a driveway after delivering the mail. This dog was trained as a guard dog so I can understand him doing his job . . . . . btw, I delivered the mail to the box they put on the gate at the entrance from then on.

Can I also say that Rotties are one of my top 5 most favourite breeds . . .
