Don't seem to be many round here and I can't recall meeting a grown one but a puppy is coming to our dog club, mainly for socialisation as she is a bit nervous of other dogs. She's very well behaved but tried to squeeze herself under a chair when Pepper said hello, but by the end of her first visit she was happy to sniff back so I'm sure after a few more weeks she'll be fine.

I have never had a bad experience (touchwood) and when we met a rottie in the rescue centre she was the sweetest thing...but Flower is terrified of them?? i have no idea why as she has never had an encounter with one, but she has become frightened of large dogs...due to being attacked by a german shephard twice. Its really sad as I would love to rescue a rottie...but other than that they all seem slobbery and harmless.... xxxxxx

Only really known 2. One was a gentle giant at Dog Club. The other was a huge lollopy resident cafe-bar dog in Britanny called Olga who loved everyone.
It`s them ankle-biters you want to watch - not the big ones!

Only met two in the flesh, both owned by one prat, who was trying to be matcho and had no control over either of them, they were at a training club, and one was put in a down stay, while he 'trained' the other, the one in a down stay, just wandered around bullying the other dogs, I wouldn't say he was aggresive in the snarling snapping way, but he had his hacles up and was very intimidating, the owner would then put his other dog in a down stay, and yell at his other dog to go back in his corner, and physically almost throw him back there, while his other dog, wandered around doing the bullying, the trainer just let him get on with it, and threw keys or pebbles in a plastic bottle at any dog (Jack included ) that dared to retaliat (sp), Jack still being extremly nervous then, as it was only about 3 weeks after we got him, was made a lot worse, needless to say it was the first and last time we went there, so my only encounter with Rotties was bad, even though it was totally down to the the prat of an owner

My friend has a very large rottie, and she is lovely She can come across as a bit intimidating, but mostly because she is so huge. She's a very old lady now with some health problems, so she loves having a fuss and even climbs into people's laps for a cuddle! Because her health is not great, she weighs more than she should, so you definitely know about it when she sits on you!
When I was about five or six, I fell in love with a rottie pup at a camp site. He was a very sweet pup and his owners were clearly very knowledgeable.

I agree that, as with most dogs, it's the people who cause the problems, and I have come across some rotties who have been so messed up by their owners that you do need to be very wary of them. One that I met had been beaten and burned by his previous owners to "make him mean" and was eventually removed from them by the police. He was taken in by some people my parents knew, but eventually had to be PTS because even with experienced and professional trainers, he couldn't shake that fear of people and the need to defend himself before anyone could hurt him.

All good experiences. I have never had a lot to do with Rotties and you never see any round here, but when I lived in Lancaster, we had a couple that came to dog club that were gorgeous and so friendly. I also had the pleasure of meeting a rottie that was an operational police dog and he was amazing - very athletic and soooo well trained. Then I met Nero's two on the Dogsey walk and they were absolutely stunning and very friendly.

So is Takara

The first time she met one it was my colleague's dog who came bouncing up to Takara, backed her into a corner and stood towering over her face to face and wagging enthusiastically as if to say 'HELLO!!!!!! Please be my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!'

It scared the pants off her and she freaks out if she sees them now - even though he was only trying to be friendly! He just doesn't realise how big he is!

There is only two around here, one owned by what you may say is a typical sterotype bloke.....but the dog is a real pleasure, very well trained, always on lead in the village under control he's lovely.
There is also a bitch around here a rescue rotti, owned by a semi retired couple and she is exactly the same very well trained, brilliant recall, friendly and outgoing,so our experience with them has been good.

Always excellent, although I have only met them at shows and you may expect them to have semi-responsible owners, or disappear off the show scene sharpish. I always get a thorough face wash!
