"The Convention is based on the principle that pet animals should not be abandoned, nor be caused unnecessary pain, suffering or distress. It stipulates minimum standards to which national governments should give effect, with respect to pet animals kept in households, or in any establishment for trading or commercial breeding and boarding, or in animal sanctuaries. It also makes provision with respect to stray animals and humane education programs"

There's a lot more to the Convention than that, in the main I agree with it but there are some aspects that need to be reworded as it suggests that there should be a blanket ban on some breeds based on inaccurate information (unless it's been changed since I last read it!)

They wouldn't ban certain breeds but the breeders of dogs thought to be suffering, for example British Bulldogs would have to breed them with health in mind, i.e not breeding dogs with excessively squashed faces etc

It would ban merle breeding full stop, plus short legged breeds etc.

It talks too vaguely in terms of 'adequate care and attention' which is open to interpretation, as it already is now !!

There is nothing in that petition to state anyone do anything different really than they are doing now or getting away with now !!

I don't see the point of it !
