Whelping Boxes

Hi All,
What type of whelping box do you go for and from your experience, what would you recommend??
A handmade job, one of those UPVC thingies, or one of those disposable ones or are you just as well using a large cardboard box ?
Answers on a postcard please...............

i have a made one of conti board it's easy to clean and can be put away after use..... I don't breed often so a snow silk ( UPVC ) would be wasted here ............ I don't like the card board type they can't be cleaned and the pups normally eat them ..........

Hi shalocaboxers,
I don't know alot about whelping boxes but i think heavier breed dogs are best with a homemade box with pig rails in(think thats there called).
Smaller breeds would of thought disposable boxes would be good as easy to keep clean.

WE too have made ours out of Conti board, easy to clean and take apart and store. Hoping to use it sometime this year!

My F-I-L is a carpenter, so with each litter we have he quickly makes us a new one, this time we used like a tongue and grove upvc, excellent for cleaning and nice and light too!

Can I ask Crazycockers how did you manage to fix the sides toether and the floor?
I have been looking at the upvc but cant work out how I can join it all together.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
I've seen pics of the cardboard ones and I couldn't figure out how they would be easy to keep clean, and the prices of the UPVC ones for the size i would need are a bit shocking
I'm going to stick with my first intention...the homemade wooden job.

Ta muchly
