What about a Hog Roast instead of a straight forward BBQ. Its a bit different and very showy?

Carvery usually = god awful dry meat as it can't really be served straight away. Bit 80s IMO

I'd suggest BBQ really, a bit different.

Another vote for BBQ here. A carvery can only be awful or amazing IMO there doesnt seem to be a middle ground and often when feeding a large group of people at the same time it leans more towards the awful.

We had a hog roast for ours rather then a sit down meal and it was great. People chatted while getting in line and a couple went up for 2nds as there was some left. we added pudding as well and it went down a storm. It was cooked in the kitchens and brought out into the hall way. If they offer the BBQ all year round then they will have a plan b for bad weather.

BTW were are you having it?

We're (well I'm) thinking here:

The pictures don't do it justice though IMO. It's on one of our walks and we stop off for a drink. And they're dog friendly And if I can't get a rig of dogs (which I think having a summer wedding would be a bit too much) there are two stables and I'll just have a horse to carry me through the woods instead..

I wish I liked pork enough to have a hog roast, but I'm a fussy eater

The bbq sounds great. But as others have said, the great British weather may not agree! We've got a choice of three at ours and I'm struggling to know what to pick as I'm so fussy!!

Check your caterers! Many hog roast people will now do chicken and lamb as well as pork... due to people not eating pork for religious reasons etc...

I organised a corporate event, and we had roast pork, roast chicken and salmon, with new potatoes, salads, bread etc - yum!!
