The Chongqing Dog
Just came across this breed of dog I never new existed...very unsual looking its the Chongqing Dog!
Though I'd share it with you guys...what do you think?
The pups are stunners
The Chongqing Dog is a medium sized dog with a deep brown/mahogany color in a thin coat. Their ears are erect and their teeth should meet in scissor bite or be slightly undershot. The teeth should not be visible when the mouth is closed in a natural position. Males should be muscular and well defined where females tend to be more streamlined with an air of femininity.
Temperament
The Chongqing Dog is noble, alert, intelligent, and dignified. They are good with respectful children, but can be aloof with dogs they are not familiar with. Proper socialization as a puppy will resolve this. Like all working breeds, they should be socialized to non-canine pets at an early age as well.
The Chinese Chongqing Dog is fearless, powerful and muscular. They are natural guard dogs with high drive but are not suitable for competitive or police bite work. If their owner is not with them and a stranger approaches, the Chongqing Dog will heighten watchfulness and make their presence known. If their owner is present, and they see the stranger is friendly, they will drop their guard even if their owners leave. They are independent and can be a little stand-offish with strangers at first but are extremely devoted to their family.
Since the Chongqing Dog is an evolutionary breed and not “man made,” their natural instincts are extremely keen and require a dominant owner that isn’t heavy handed. Using pain based training techniques like shock or pinch collars will cause the dog to shut down and not trust their owner. Therefore, potential owners should interview trainers well in advance of their Chongqing Dogs arrival.
