immunisation

I found the article on having your pets immunised every 3yrs as apposed to the yearly boosters interesting. Wondered if any one had any views on this?

personally I welcome this, I hate bombarding my dogs with boosters, hence at the moment I only give every 18mths and not the stated every 12 months.

With horses you can choose to give every second year instead of every year.

Personally I wouldnt risk to not have my dog vaccinated every year. atleast not til she gets older and I´m certain she´s covered.

I bring my dog all sorts of places and meet other dogs several times a week.

But there may be in diff in both methods and use of the dogs in both countries and families.

It is something I have been thinking carefully about, Kip is due her annual booster right now but I am thinking of waiting another year after hearing views on 1 yearly boosters being too much too often.....does anybody think there are any greater risks by leaving it two years between vaccinations as opposed to 1?

this is the pattern our vet is following:

6 - 8 weeks Nobivac DHPPi + Nobivac Lepto 2

10 weeks Nobivac DHPPi + Nobivac Lepto 2

1st annual booster Nobivac DHPPi + Nobivac Lepto 2

2nd annual booster Nobivac Pi + Nobivac Lepto 2

3rd annual booster Nobivac Pi + Nobivac Lepto 2

4th annual booster Nobivac DHPPi + Nobivac Lepto 2

5th annual booster Nobivac Pi + Nobivac Lepto 2

6th annual booster Nobivac Pi + Nobivac Lepto 2

7th annual booster Nobivac DHPPi + Nobivac Lepto 2

etc

Mine only have the full booster every 3 years, but they do have the Lepto one every year!

Because the manufacturer of the vaccine has said it is safe this way, our kennels have accepted it too!

Our kids aren't vaccinated every year, so why should our dogs?

Hi Deester Carole beat me to it, most vets are now using the 'Intervet'system Carole posted as summarise here the treatment after the first yearafter the first year :-

ever three years =
1) Nobivac DHPPi + Nobivac Lepto2
2) Every year=
Nobivac Lepto2 + Nobivac Pi .
Thats Leptospirosis and parainfluenza

However to give a balanced view you may like to read the article by Catherine O' Driscoll here..
a lot of people are coming to the view our dogs are over vaccinated, I still vaccinate as above but, am not too sure what is really best either way it is think a personal choice

Just been looking at Kingsleys vaccination card...not sure what system they've used for him!

6 - 8 weeks - Leptospirosis, Parvo

10 weeks - Distemper, Hepatitis, lepto, Parvo, Parainfluenza

1st annual booster - Lepto & parvo

2nd annual booster - Distemper, Hepatitis, lepto, Parvo, Parainfluenza, Bordetellosis

3rd annual booster - Lepto & parvo

4th annual booster - (not sure, as she didn't tick the boxes!)

5th annual booster - lepto & parvo

6th annual booster - Distemper, Hepatitis, lepto, Parvo, Parainfluenza/bordetellosis (can't tell which box the tick is in!)

7th annual booster - Lepto, parvo, parainfluenza
