We have blueberries!

Didn't know if it would work but I've been trying blueberries in tubs (no chance of acid loving blueberries being happy on almost solid Dorset chalk!).

Well, despite the best efforts of OH, Dinah and her football, looks like we'll get some fruit this year, and hopefully more as they get bigger year by year.

Pictoral proof:-

Berries

Plant (+ dead football - lots of them round our house!)

Also have about 20 fruit on the fig. Have had it growing in a pot for about 10 years - it moved house with us 3 years ago, much to the removers' disgust!)

Lots of bee activity today. I love the big fluffy jobs - but worry about the dog eating them.

Looks like a good crop DM. I love blueberries, never thought about growing them in a pot.

Hi DM, that's great. I have blueberries in a pot too, for a much less noble reaseon, haven't bothered to plant it out yet! We also had fruit, but the birds polished them off quite successfully, which is fine, that's why I bought it

Well thanks for the warning - didn't know the birds went for them!

Which reminds me of the pair of blackbirds I see every day, outside the greengrocer, merrily swooping down and flying off with lovely ripe cherries on display! Everyone loves watching them so the sales people have stopped trying to shoo them away! It's OK as long as all the birds in town don't get the same idea.

Oh no
Just bought them as plants in early spring (few twigs, sort of like a blackcurrant bush), planted up in ericaceous compost and waited. They've survived the cold snap in March etc.
Saw lots of signs offering blueberries for sale when we were in Quebec last summer - figured if they can take the winters over there, they can survive here. Worst peril appears to have been Dinah and her ball - lost a branch to that!

LOL Dinah!

Will look into it further, we are going to need to find plants for patio pots and that seems like a really good option - it's quite hot down our way so maybe they'll like it.

Thanks for the info.
