Greyhound/lurcher toe nail clipping!

I've got 5 dogs including a greyhound and 2 lurchers. I've noticed that their claws seem very long but the quick of the nail remains close to the edge maknig it hard to clip them without nicking the quick.
My 2 lurchers have got used to their claws being done but my greyhound (who I've had for 4 days) has long back claws and it's hard to see the quick. I'm scared of nicking them so my husband does it but he's caught them a couple of times. Any advice how to get around this??

My dally has really long nails, he keeps drawing blood with them. Im thinking of using the pedi-paws - it grinds them down rather than clipping. If the nails are black, just take the very end off, or if not sure maybe take him to the vet

Quickfinder make clippers that can "see" the quick and tell you when it safe to cut

My boy is an absolute wuss with clippers, he screams if you so much as touch his nail with one (I can thank my Dad for that ) but he got a pedi-paws for christmas and he's fine with that. http://www.jmldirect.com/product.asp...gecurrency=GBP
A dremel drill works just as well but with the pedi paws it stops if you press too hard and gathers all the dust up.. and you dont have to worry about it hurting them if theyre being awkward and have their paw at an unreachable angle

Hi, also what i do sometimes is shine a torch behind the claw and it shows up the quick casing inside so you can see how much to cut .

On the rare occasions my dogs need their nails doing I take them to the groomers, who are doing it every day. Quick, efficient and cheap.
