Star would need to be knocked out to be tattooed

She was chipped at 10 weeks at the time of her second vaccination.

I'm not sure if I could have my dogs tattooed...I've got about 5 hours worth of it myself, and it hurt like hell, so I don't think it would be fair on them, especially when they have no choice in the matter!!

Whereas the chip...Teagan didn't even seem to know anything had been done to her! lol

Tamino was chipped at 10 weeks. Penny at 5 years, Lucy at 3.

I would get my dogs tattooed as it is the easiest way of identification. Tags can get lost (all ours have 3 tags, 1 with telephone number and name, we don't get dogs stolen so much here, 1 saying that the dog is chipped, and the dogs licence, which has an registration code through which the owners can also be traced) if the collar is slipped off, without a tag saying the dog was chipped you can never visibly tell if the dog is chipped or not, so a tattoo is the safest bet. In my opinion at least.

I've asked my vet and he says that for the more exciteable dogs he puts them under a light general anastetic. For the calm but very pain sensitive he uses a strong local, For those in the middle he uses a light local, and for the rock steady he uses a freezing spray. But you can also choose what you want for the dog. The only thing he asks is for the owner to be present if the dog is to be awake.

ohhhhh, all mine would have on the inside of the leg, save Penny. But for Tamino its definite on the thigh, as he has normally erect ears and its not attractive in shows. They would look on the inside of the thigh, those are the 2 "standard" places.

Tamino would need a general because I can't see him staying still for longer than 3 minutes, he can tolarate alot of pain though. Lucy would need a general as she is sooooooo stressed by vets in general and she is VERY pain sensitive. Penny could do it with the area just being frozen though as long as I was with her. She once needed her paw stiched up (she cut it on a bottle), and the vet had not anastetic, so she was stiched without anything. Not a whimper, though I almost cried while hugging her and seeing what the vet was doing

My next dog I might get tatooed
