TPLO surgery

I found out yesterday that my 4 year old will need surgery on both of his cruciate ligaments. The specialist is wanting to do TPLO surgery... It isn't something I have experience with, so I was just wondering what experiences people have with cruciate surgery, and more specifically TPLO surgery, and the recovery etc?

I know the recovery will be long and hard, but any tips of things to help him would be great. He is booked in for the 1st of July.

Sorry to hear that Was there not someone on here who kept a diary after surgery? I've searched but can't find it. Friend had her Springer done just the one leg with prospect of other needing done later. She has made a good recovery runs with other dogs does HTM and is a typical Springer She hasn't shown any signs of problems with other leg and this is 2 maybe 3 years down the line. She went to hydro which helped her recovery.

Molly has just had surgery on both cranial cruciate ligaments. The first op was in January second op was 8 weeks ago today. Molly had her 6 week post op x-rays last Tuesday and is on 15 minute walks now, 4 times per day and doing really well.

She's 10 in August, I'm sorry Jake is having to go through it at a much younger age. Yes, they most likely will develop osteoarthritis, but the onset of it varies from dog to dog. With ome it can be quite quickly afterwards, with others it can develop very slowly, apparently normally as they age. Accordig the specialists anyway.

She had a tibial wedge osteotomy which was the best option for Molly, according the Glasgow Vet School. Very similar to a TPLO I think. They created an artifical fracture in which the wedge was screwed in place, removing the use of the ligaments and changing the movement of the leg and a different movement of the ligaments. I think that's the case anyway.

Yes, the recovery is long, but providing you strictly stick to the post op management care you should be fine.

I looked in to hydrotherapy (treadmill type), but none of the vets have said she needs it and gradually building up her walks is the best thing for her for now. Hydro can be considered later on if needed.

Where will Jake be having his surgery? GUVS or Stirling?
