Although not practiced here (UK...that I know of) it seems relatively common in the US and especially Australia where breeders will often 'fix' pups before they leave for there new homes to prevent them from being bred from. It's not something I would ever consider doing though.

I personally don't see why if a dog is not going to be bred from, why it should automatically be deemed fit to lose it's bits !!!
Same here hun , my boy was 8/12 an still had his bits xxdk

Far too young in my opinion too as they have not developed properly and also the anaesthetic risk in all dogs but especially a young puppy.

I too do not belive in neutering a male dog except for health reasons.

my old BC was 8 when he was neutered, for health reasons (prostate problems), I personally feel that was too late, he was older and so the GA was more of a worry as was his recovery time. I wish I'd had him done as a youngster (but not at 12 weeks!)

I don't agree with early neutering, it has nothing to do with teh anesthetic or anything I just think it is wrong to start removing bits before they are fully formed unless for medical reasons. I like to know that my dogs is functioning normally before considering surgery.

Hi

I think that would be a bit young - don't dogs tend to have a fear period around that age? ALso may not be helpful for socialising as pup needs at least 10 days of rest due to stitches and it's so close to end of socialisation. Just my thoughts tho.

As i stated in the previous thread on who is responsible for dogs in rescue , At twelve weeks old do they slice them open root about a bit and just chop off whatever falls in to there hands , surely they are not properly developed at twelve weeks and in males there testicles have not even dropped yet let allow developed xxdk

I'm against early neutering also.

My dog was going to be castrated IF and ONLY IF he was either affected or a carrier for L2.He's clear so his bits will remain with him.
I don't believe in castrating a dog unless for medical reasons. As for bitches well that's different as already mentioned they are at risk of Pyo,so I shall be at some point having Meg spayed.
