Can I ask why you think that? A pup from rescue is no different from a pup from a breeder.

I've seen plently of pups come into rescue that have come from "good breeders" :smt002

Do you get papers with a rescue pup? Do you get to meet the parents of the pup? Do you get to know if the parents have been health tested? Do you get lifetime supposrt, 3am in the morning you have puppy trouble, are you there then? Do you have piece of mind that you have bought a happy well adjusted, well bred pup? Do pups in rescues have socialisation with all kinds of environments? Children? Cats and other animals? Do you let your pups go to homes with children under 5 in the household?

I'm not having a go here, but as brandisnap has said, rescues are not for everyone. Especially if you were wanting a pup to show.

Thanks Knottybabe
I can understand that some people want to stick to the standard, that is their opinion. But that is no reason to be horrible to you for having a different opinion.
Good luck with your search

Allbreeds, I think that with rescue dogs you sometimes don't know really what you're getting, even with puppies. The pups could already have been traumitised by something. They might not have been brought up in a house around people. Although that won't be a problem for some people and they will become lovely dogs it could cause problems with other people
When looking for a breeder we are told to find one with well cared for dogs, avoid ones that are reared outside away from people. Going to a rescue won't make it ok to pick a dog with bad beginnings. With rescue pups you can't see their parents, you don't always know about health and temperament in their family.
Or it could just be that you have young kids and the rescue won't let you have a dog, or that rescues in your area don't have the right breed for you.

I'm not having a go. I love rescue dogs, would be happy to get a rescue puppy. I just think that there are still lots of things to consider before choosing a rescue.

Depends on the rescue! No you wont get papers, it most rescues policy not to give out papers even if they have them.
If the rescue has any information then yes they will tell you.
Yep if a good rescue you will have lifetime backup and yes even at 3 am I certainly have from mine.
No you have the peace of mind that you can care for your dog and give it a good home.
Yes a good rescue will ensure all dogs are socialised and assessed with different enviornments, many are raised in foster homes, with cats kids etc.
Some rescues will rehome with young children some wont, as is true of some breeders.

I would never be given a rescue pup because I work full time even though I have systems in place to make sure my 5 adult dogs are all very happy and contented - so it looks like I wont getthe chance of a rescue for teh next 40 odd years so rescues are not always available to everyone ;(

Never say never!

I work full time and my local rescue centre did not discriminate me.In an ideal world,we wouldnt have to work to make ends meet, but we do and some centres understand this.

Give them a go!

You shouldn't be made to feel guilty for getting a pup from a breeder. Yes, it is absolutely wonderful that so many people feel able to rescue homeless dogs, but a rescue dog or pup isn't ideal for everyone or their circumstances. I have had a rescue dog and two pups from breeders. I don't know which route I will go down in the future, but the more I am bitten by the bug of sheepdog training, the more likely it is that I will go for well bred collie lines.

There are rescues who give you all possible background on the dogs, and carry out a string of tests on the animal.

There are rescues that don't.

Same with breeders really

As far as I can see into the future the only breed I am considering untill I am much older, is another Weimaraner, and I will always have Weimaraners, and I will want them to show, so a rescue wouldn't be for me i'm afraid, unless I opted out of showing, which I won't because I love it and am truely bitten by the show bug! :smt002
