Coyotes aren't all that big... and have a large range in size. 15-45 lbs (around here I'd peg them at 30 lbs average) 20 or so inches tall.

They're tough little fighters, and mate for life, they have a loose pack structure, though they often go off on their own... infact it's rare to see them together.

In the small town I live in, I here them almost every night, and sometimes they're right in town. Most people are afraid of them, but I really like them... though you wont see me letting my dogs off leash at night around town!

Can they mate with dogs ?

Yes they can mate with dogs, though they are a seperate species from dogs (unlike wolves) and within a few generations, become steril and have major genetic issues. They also mate with wolves (although rare as wolves kill coyotes, it does sometimes happen) and the Red Wolf in eastern Canada ans the US have alot of Coyote in their make-up, as well as the coyote populations in the same area carry some wolf DNA.

They do scavenge in urban areas, and often hunt small dogs and cats. but mostly they're after rabbits, mice and other rodents, and birds.
