Defrosting a fridge

Okay - boooooooring, I know, but I need to defrost mine and I'm not very up on this sort of thing and I've never had to do it when there is so much stuff in it.

Can you switch off for a couple of hours and be sure that all the refrigerated stuff AND the frozen stuff will still be okay?

Or does it have to be for hours on end so that you lose all your food. Or does it still stay cold?

If its still hot were you live then I`d leave it till you`ve nearly emptied it of food. I wouldn`t really turn it off & wait for it to defrost with food inside it, you`re food would spoil.
It won`t stay cold if you turn it off.
You could always get a couple of cool bags & put your food in them while you defrost your fridge

If you put a bowl of boiling hot water into the fridge and close the door once switched off it melts the ice quite quick, might need to change the water a few times and like christine said put all the food in cool box, sink or bath (depending how much stuff) with plenty of ice & water.
