Opinions please

There is often a woman in my corner shop with a parrot (a bloody great red and green one) on her shoulder or arm. It often takes off and flaps around the shop. I don't think it can fly.
This morning there was an elderly lady there who obviously didn't like it. So I complained and said that I wouldn't be allowed to take my dog in there why should a parrot be allowed.
The assistant didn't quite know what to say.
What do you all feel about a parrot loose in a shop?

I know some people are very phobic of birds so I think it shouldn't be allowed to flap around the shop, also what if it pees or poops on the stock ew, if she must bring it in then it should be kept on her and not let free in my opinion

I personally wouldn't be happy to go in there.

In a pet shop when people expect to encounter animals, fair enough but personally I don't think its a good idea for any ol' shop.
Plenty of people are allergic to feathers and I believe being scared of birds is pretty common. Like you said - why is a parrot allowed but not a dog?

Bet a dog would be quieter and less likely to poop too

I believe parrots can carry PSITTACOSIS
Air born virus that can affect the very young or elderly
Flue like symptoms
To have a parrot flying around the general public is a BIG NO NO especially in a shop selling food stuffs

A lot of people are phobic of birds, and i'd be more worried about it crapping around the food, which i think esp if there is fresh unpackaged fruit and veg has the potential to be really unhygienic!

Must admit I laughed out loud at the first sentence!

Well out of order (am wondering if it's had its wings clipped to stop it flying?)

I'm all for local characters and local colour but a parrot loose in a food shop. No no no.

Having said that, I've got photos my son sent me when he was living in the Cayman Is. of them queueing in the supermarket to pay and colourful parrots and all sorts just flying around in there - uninvited - they just fly in! (But that's not a small corner shop!)

But I would say the same about children!
I don't understand why dogs aren't allowed in shops but kids are. I used to work in a Poundland and we had more poo and wee incidents than you'd like to know

But yeah, don't think a parrot that would poop on stock would be very hygienic..
