Do your dogs like to dig?

None of mine have shown any inclination.

I was thinking of teaching Stumpy so she could help me out with some holes that need digging for some new plants, but then I thought better of it ....don't want her deciding to dig up the whole garden.

So then it got me thinking - is the like for digging breed related?

I'd like to hear which breeds do and don't dig (though I can't cover all breeds on the pole, so just a yes no for that)

HHhmmm, my two will dig, but only in certain circumstances!

For instance, if I'm working in the garden and digging, then they will 'join in', by digging in what I've already dug.

Murphy will dig into molehills (and sometimes bring me a mole) and they will both dig to 'catch' something - rabbit etc.

But - they don't dig randomly. I've got no holes in my lawn because they took an interest in the grass!

H dug more when she was a puppy and does occasionally do it but Looby (cross) is the worst she tries to dig right under the fences!
once she got out...only to walk round to the front door and bark to be let back in!!!
Labs are generally pretty good diggers from the ones i have known!
Blue (greyhound) hasnt learnt about digging yet or maybe he just cant be bothered!

I knew that 3 options weren't going to be enough

I wouldn't mind that at all - could be quite useful - if only they would dig where you need them to rather than the bits you've already dug

the rotties I have had are all big diggers...

after the compleat destruction of my garden in my early rottie days, I then decided, digging would be controled by training a command, eg tap my foot, dog digs were foot is tapped,

but they do go off the rails and cheat now and then, a good old dig is like a drug to my dogs,
now and then they fall off the wagon.

here is a prime example of falling off the wagon, {beau pup giving it his all}

oh bugga im caught face

Bryan goes for ages without digging, then he'll do it all the time! He likes to dig up his duvet in the front room as well as digging under trees in the garden

Oh, and mole hills, he loves to dig them.

Siren used to but seems to have gromw out of it. (BC)

Gabe never has to my knowledge (GSDx)

Trip will (Gundog X) and Jasper like the roots (BC)!

Has he ever brought you a mole back?

Murphy catches them, despatches them, then proudly brings them into the living room to drop at my feet

If he'd do it consistently, I'd hire him out as a mole-catcher!!
